The Department of Zoology, one of the youngest departments under the umbrella of the R.T.M. Nagpur University was established in July 1994. Within this small tenure of two decade, the department is spearheading the cause of higher education in the animal sciences. The highly qualified faculty is engaged in the frontier areas of research such as Transmission Electron Microscopy, Histology, Endocrinology, Reproductive Physiology, Avian biology, Insect biology, Pollution, Environmental Biology and Biodiversity.
The department laboratory is equipped with all necessary and sophisticated instruments and equipments to carry out theory and practical classes as per the syllabus. The Department has sophisticated microscopes, Research microscopes, Haemometer, Haemocytometer, Camera lucida, BP apparatus, Oven, electrophoretic system, Spectrophotometer, pH meter, Enlarger, Environment biology kit etc.

The museum is well stocked with various specimen belonging to all the animal phyla which are used for teaching Invertebrate and Vertebrates divisions which are included in the syllabi. The Museum of Zoology is home to a huge variety of preserved animals which are significant for our knowledge on the faunal diversity of the biosphere. These animals are related to evolution, embryology and of various other fields are used for the purpose of academic study by students and teachers. The museum has specimens like Crab, prawn, lobster and insects decorate the Arthropoda collection, while the molluscans are represented through snail, oyster, shells, octopus and squids. The echinoderms collection has beautiful starfish, sea feather and cucumber. Museum also has electric ray, deep-water fishes, and flying fishes and many more. A very interesting aspect is the taxidermy collection of birds (parrot and Kingfisher) reptiles (varanus) and mammals (squirrel). Some rare animal specimen like peripatus also in the museum. The skeletons of different vertebrate animals like varanus, fowls and rabbit are kept to know the internal arrangement of bones in the body.
At present the Department is actively engaged in teaching in diverse fields of Zoology including Life and Diversity of Animals- Nonchordates (Protozoa to Hemichordata) and Chordates (Protochordata to Mammals), General Mammalian Physiology, Environment Biology, Cell Biology Genetics, Molecular Biology, Immunology and Applied Zoology (Aquaculture and Economic Entomology, Biotechniques, Microtechnique, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Biostatistics)
Students are assessed and evaluated throughout the semester by a continuous system of unit tests, seminars, assignments and semester examinations.

RESEARCH LABORATORY [ STUDENT LIST DOING RESEARCH WORK CLICK HERE ]
The Department is not a recognized centre for research, however faculties from the department have developed research laboratory with their own efforts and by taking research projects grants (Rs. 3,20,000/-) from UGC. In the solid state Physics laboratory mainly the research is carrying out in the field of Luminescence and conducting polymers. Particularly the students are doing mostly the synthesis work in the laboratory and for characterization of the materials (samples) we prefer nearby research centers such as the laboratories of RTM Nagpur University, VNIT, Institute of Science, and if needed we go to the places such as NPL Delhi, NCL Pune, BARC Mumbai, Indore etc for the characterization purpose.  There are 12 research scholars doing Ph. D under the faculty. Out of which 5 students have been submitted their Ph. D theses to the RTM Nagpur University for the award of doctoral degree.

(Established in the Year – 1993)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of this college established in the year 1993, affiliated to the RTM Nagpur University. College celebrates NSS day on 24th of September Every year.  An experienced program officer Dr. G. L. Makkasare and Dr. V. S. Borkar (Co—officer) appointed from faculty is devoted to the whole activities of NSS. College has 100 students (Boys and Girls) Unit granted by RTM Nagpur University Nagpur. Various competitions for students are arranged every year to create social awareness amongst students. Some expert guests from the entire domain are also invited for students training, curricular as well as social development.

The Department has taken number of activities for students as well as society to clear the conceptual features and the roll of NSS . Every year the students from the NSS participate in Special Camps arrange at various places around the Kalmeshwar tahsil. The institution through its institutional social responsibility interface N.S.S. explores all the possible options where institution-neighborhood-community network can be established. The efforts are mainly focused to develop sensitivity towards local and national problems among the students and create awareness about executable solutions.

N.S.S. conducts diversified programs to generate awareness about various social issues. For example, prior to organizing a blood donation camp, students are made aware about blood donation through technical lectures and clearing misconceptions. It’s a pride to mention that, in last 10 years, 10 blood donation camps have been organized in which students and teachers were donated blood. Not only this, institution has its own mobile blood bank (MBB), through which needees can contact directly to donors. Numbers of patients have been benefitted through this MBB.
The neighborhood community which comprises underprivileged, socio-economically backward segment people like laborers, housemaids, daily wage earners, who can’t afford medical checkup / treatment not only because they don’t have money but the duration of treatment lead to economic loss, for such issues institution conducts free eye, ear, diabetes  checkup camps with convenient time and venue.

Under the N.S.S. environment awareness program conducted in the institute and “Gram Safai mohim” have been carried out at Bramhani village. Special residential camps have been organized through NSS at nearby village such as Zunki, Waroda, Adasa, Dahegaon etc through which discipline amongst the students has been generated.
In student promoted activity sector, informative lectures have been arranged to add value in their life style.
About The Events
A college in association with parent institution always implements Blood donation, eye donation and body donation activities. On 01-12-2010 world AIDS day was observed in the college in which Dr. Dharmale and Dr. Deshmukh of I.G.M.C. Nagpur explained the importance of blood donation to students and gave information regarding AIDS and HIV. A blood donation camp was organized on 08.12.2010 in the college premises in which 38 students and staff members donated blood.
